Jo Spry

Marketing Manager

After serving in the Royal Engineers, I formed and contributed to a series of successful companies, concluding that there was a prime opportunity for organisations to reduce costs and improve sustainability through reduced energy use. I set up SMARTech energy in 2014 to address this need, and have thrived on applying the skills gained from previous experiences to address the challenge of navigating a fast-growing business. The hard work has been recognised by a succession of awards, and achieving a place on the prestigious Goldman Sachs 10k small business course. I am married to Pamela – an army Sergeant – with two lovely children, Bethany and Troy, and am currently President of the Corsham Chamber of Commerce.

A qualified accountant with prior experience as an Finance Director in retail and manufacturing, I now run my own accountancy practice as well as being the Financial Controller for Smartech energy Ltd. As Financial Controller, my role is to support the business in its growth plans, ensuring resources are available as well as providing quality financial information to better inform business decisions.

Living locally in Neston, friends would say I’m obsessed with fitness. Coming later in life to it, I’ve recently completed my first Marathon and Ultra Marathon.

With experience in journalism, marketing and PR, it’s my focus as Marketing Manager for SMARTech energy to continually increase brand awareness and help drive business results. It’s a relatively new role for SMARTech energy and with a daily oversight of the Web and social media, it’s my job to keep abreast of industry trends and environmental challenges and implement targeted marketing strategies.

It’s exciting to be a part of an award winning and innovative company and I look forward to promoting it’s success in this specialist field.

I live just outside of the beautiful and historic city of Bath with my happy, energic young family.

Intern – Trainee Energy Consultant

Having been interested in renewable energy and sustainability from a young age, I developed my passion through the completion of a BSc in Environmental Geoscience and an MSc in Sustainable Energy and Environment at Cardiff University. My role at SMARTech energy has shown me the huge opportunities available to commercial businesses with regards to energy efficiency and reduction. I am involved in the design of LED lighting, power quality and heating & cooling solutions to help businesses across the board reduce their energy consumption and increase their profits. I currently live in Bath and play both football and cricket for local teams.

After completing a BEng in Mechanical Engineering and MSc in Sustainable Energy and Environment both at Cardiff University, I worked as an energy consultant for a number of years before joining a leading Solar PV installer as a project manager.  Just over 5 challenging, yet enjoyable years later, and with more than 100 commercial and domestic installations successfully completed, I decided it was time for a new challenge. When I came across SMARTech Energy I leapt at the opportunity to return to the field of Energy Consultancy for such a driven and passionate firm. I love helping businesses to reduce their energy use and costs as well as helping the environment at the same time.

I am very lucky to live in the beautiful town of Bradford-on-Avon with my partner (soon to be wife).  An avid rugby and cricket fan, I play cricket regularly and occasionally succumb to the pressure to put my rugby boots back on for my old team of Devizes.

Following an undergraduate degree in BSc Geography, I’m currently doing my masters course in Environmental Consultancy at the University of the West of England.

As part of my masters course we are required to undertake at least 48 days work placement within a chosen sector. This is done to try to enhance and develop our skills to make us become more employable for the future.

SMARTech Energy offered me the opportunity to undertake my placement as Trainee Energy Consultant.  This work placement will give me the experience and skills that I need to kickstart my career in the energy sector.

Brian Smith

Business Development Manager

After 25 years of owning and running a graphic design business, I decided to act on my interest in environmental issues by taking elements of a degree course in Environmental Science, followed by completing an MSc in Environmental Consulting. The latter led to joining SMARTech energy, where helping our clients with win-win solutions that reduce costs while simultaneously addressing elements of sustainability and reducing carbon emissions presents a compelling proposition. At SMARTech my wide business experience is invaluable in maintaining client relationships and overseeing our SEMS programme. I live locally in Corsham with my family, and when I get the time enjoy cycling, sailing and playing guitar in a band.

A member of the Institute of Engineering & Technology, I originally started out as a marine electrical engineer.  For the past 25 years, I have been working as a senior sales manager in the IT security industry; working internationally with IBM, Symantec, EMC.

I have extensive experience as a business development manager, in the dynamic and ever changing energy sector, covering energy solutions and maintenance services to a wide range of public and private sector businesses. I enjoy working with organisations to fully understanding their unique business needs, their drivers and their emission reduction targets, to then jointly formulate energy efficiency strategies to meet their short, mid and long term sustainable business plans.

My hobbies outside of work consist of field archery at locations all over England.

Electrician

I started my career as an electrician with NG Baileys where I completed a 4 year apprenticeship. After 8 years at NG Baileys I moved on to gain wide ranging experience in domestic, commercial and industrial environments. I am an Approved Electrician qualified to 17th Edition with inspecting and testing and I am a qualified Site Supervisor. At SMARTech energy I very much enjoy seeing the impact of what we do, delivering projects that can transform the workplace to a high standard. Outside of work I am very much a family man with 2 young children who keep me busy and occupy most of my spare time.

A qualified 17th Edition Electrician since 2010, I’ve spent the past 6 years working in both the UK and Australia building up my experience and knowledge.

My role as a level 3 electrician at SMARTech energy will be to focus on the installation of energy saving technologies within organisations and ensure compliance.

I live in Corsham and my hobbies include playing rugby for the local Corsham Rugby team and refurbishing vintage vehicles.

Apprentice Electrician

Having completed my electrical apprenticeship within the domestic sector, I am now a qualified Level 2 electrician with 4 years of experience.

As Junior Electrician for SMARTech energy, I’m looking forward to gaining technical knowledge within the commercial sector and in particular, understanding the energy saving and environmental benefits of energy saving technologies.

I live in Chippenham, Wiltshire and my hobbies include photography and renovating cars to a high spec and showcasing them at car shows around the country.

My role within the company is an apprentice electrician. I first took an interest in electrics in my final 3 years of secondary school where I chose to take DT systems as one of my GCSE subjects. Having got a taste of the basics, I left school to then join a company which made bespoke mirrors with added lighting and music systems. After working there for 2 years I then decided I would like to go into electrical installations with more depth which has led me to where I am today, working for SMARTech energy as an apprentice electrician. I have recently moved to Holt having lived in Trowbridge for nearly all of my life. My hobbies are football and golf as well as socialising with friends.

I’m currently doing a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Electro-technical installation.  I’ve been an apprentice for almost 2 years and will be starting my 3rd year in September.   I’m excited about my move to SMARTech energy, as not only will it enable me to gain more experience as an Electrician, but it will also enable me to become a specialist in the energy efficiency sector.
