Sorry it’s been a while, we’ve been quite busy. In June 2017 SMARTech Energy celebrated its 3rd birthday. And what a fun year it was. We made great strides in our third year, achieving an impressive 25% year on year growth. At the same time we also focused on building the team and evolving our infrastructure, laying the platform for even faster growth in year 4. Here are some highlights of our third year.
In early Spring we became a Carbon Trust Accredited Supplier, which enables our SME clients to access capital funding for energy saving projects installed by SMARTech Energy via the Green Business Fund. SMEs can benefit from a 15% capital grant (up to £5k) via this fund. Local Wiltshire based company Combe Castle International bid successfully with SMARTech Energy delivering energy efficient solutions in lighting, evaporative cooling, voltage optimisation and our very own SMART Refrigeration. We are delighted to now have several other companies in the Green Business Fund application process.
In late Spring, SMARTech Energy launched a new service SEMS (SMART Energy Management Service). SEMS is a subscription based energy consultancy service, providing clients with a bespoke energy reduction strategy whilst supporting them in the implementation of this strategy and their ongoing energy requirements. Current SEMS clients include Puma Energy, the UK’s 6th largest fuel distributor, a secondary school and businesses in the childcare, digital and leisure sectors.
Managing Director Stuart Pearce has almost finished his placement on the prestigious Goldman Sachs 10k Small Businesses Programme, SMARTech Energy was selected as part of the top 6% of small businesses which are fast growth businesses. This intensive programme has seen Stuart undertake 100 hours of high quality tuition and 7 days of residential learning to develop a business growth plan to implement back into SMARTech Energy. Keep an eye on our latest news for a blog post from Stuart discussing his time on the programme in the next few weeks.
Back in the Autumn, Simon Williams joined SMARTech Energy as Operations Director. Simon has been focusing on building the team and putting in place systems to enable our continued growth. During the year our new recruits included an energy consultant, an account manager and an electrician who is taking his apprenticeship in partnership with Wiltshire College. Our premises at Leafield Industrial Estate is currently undergoing a refit, creating more office space for our growing team, with a Trainee Energy Consultant and Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineer starting this week. We also have a Business Management and Marketing undergraduate student from Bath Spa University assisting us over the busy summer period.
In May we welcomed Account Manager Clive Harrison on board. Clive is keen to develop new business and provide excellent customer relationship management. Clive is busy attending networking events in the South West; he’s a friendly chap so if you meet him, come and say hello. However, all this networking and scoffing croissants has not helped his tea and coffee making skills in the office – which we all hope improves soon!
We are constantly re-aligning our proposition to ensure that we recruit the best people. Please keep an eye on our current vacancies for exciting opportunities arising over the next few months. We have exciting plans for our 4th year and look forward to sharing them with you as we go.
