Now in its third phase, the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) was initially designed to help large organisations to understand the business and financial benefits of implementing energy saving measures.
However, with the current energy crisis, compliance should not be seen as a regulatory ‘box ticking’ exercise, but an opportunity to reduce energy consumption, save on energy costs and cut carbon emissions.

Energy audits are a critical part in the road map of the Energy Efficiency-as-a-Service model. With no upfront costs, finance leasing or risk, the ‘as-a-service’ approach includes energy audits, installation, maintenance and management of technology upgrades to energy efficient systems.
The verified data from an energy audit detects where energy is being consumed and wasted – and allows the company’s specialist consultancy team to understand and manage an organisation’s energy consumption with greater precision and accuracy.
This service approach typically identifies energy savings of more than 20% to 30% and it’s these same analytics which can be used to adhere to legislative compliance mandates such as ESOS and The Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR).
About ESOS
The Energy Savings and Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is entering its third phase. UK businesses have until the December 2023 to comply, but the key date for assessing whether or not you qualify is 31st December 2022.
ESOS is a mandatory assessment and energy savings identification scheme and if your company meets one or more of the following criteria, then this government legislation will apply to you:
- It employs 250 or more people
- It has an annual turnover in excess of 50 million euro (£44,845,000), and an annual balance sheet total in excess of 43 million euro (£38,566,700)
