Achieved energy reduction savings of 68%

Wadswick Country Store LED lighting upgrade transforms shopping experience.

Wadswick Country Store is situated on the edge of the Cotswolds, seven miles from Bath and caters for country living – stocking products from equestrian and guns to grain and clothes.

Lighting in retail is an important part of the customer experience and Wadswick Country Store were keen to capitalise on a solution which satisfied not only their key objectives to improve the shopping experience and working environment through its shops, warehouse, feed stores, offices and car park, but to also achieve substantial energy savings.

Because of its energy efficiency and excellent light coverage, LED based systems were a natural fit for Wadswick Country Store.  SMARTech energy replaced all existing fluorescent fittings throughout the shop floor area with SMART LED 32 Watt panels at 4500 – 500 Kelvin light colour – which dramatically improved both the light and temperature of the store.  In addition, the new lighting design also reduced the overall number of light fittings by 22% – improving energy savings and capital investment.

Lighting solutions in the mill and mill warehouse were replaced with the installation of SMART vision LED floodlights and SMART Skybay lights – dramatically improving the illumination of the warehouse and greatly reducing energy consumption within this area alone by 76%.

The outside silos area gained from enhanced lighting from the installation of SMART Vision LEDs and greatly reduced energy consumption by 50%.

SMARTech energy are a Carbon Trust Accredited supplier and as such, projects delivered by SMARTech energy are eligible for a capital contribution of up to 15% of the project cost, up to a maximum of £5,000 from the Carbon Trust’s Green Business Fund.

SMARTech energy worked with Wadswick Country store to identify finance solutions to help with the funding of the lighting project and it was successfully part-funded by this initiative and through annual investment allowance.

Alex Barton is the Managing Director at Wadswick Country Store.  He is delighted by the quick and efficient installation of the LED lighting upgrade.

“We’ve had a really positive experience with the SMARTech energy installation team.  The quality of lighting really enhances the store and has had an immediate and positive impact on both our customers and staff”.

Alex continues “The whole installation went very smooth and without disruption.  There were a couple of changes halfway through, but they (SMARTech energy) were really flexible and it was handled well.  Overall, we were really pleased with how it went”.  Alex Barton—Managing Director, Wadswick Country Store

Wadswick Country Store shop assistant, Kim Ralton says the lighting installation has dramatically improved the working environment – “2018 was a very hot summer and we were concerned with the working environment upstairs, because it gets very hot.  SMARTech energy came in and changed all of the lights to LED which made it a lot cooler and less oppressive and the light is a lot easier to work with”.
