With the Christmas season now behind us, the focus is now on making 2017 a successful year for our businesses.
Here are 3 reasons to give your business performance a BOOST in 2017 through focusing on energy efficiency.
For many businesses, a 20% cut in energy costs represents the same bottom line benefit as a 5% increase in sales. Experience shows that even low and no-cost actions can usually reduce energy costs by at least 10% and produce quick returns. At SMARTech energy we can typically identify and implement energy saving measures of 30-50%.
BOOST Employee Wellbeing
There is compelling evidence to demonstrate that improving environmental conditions for employees (e.g. lighting, temperature and air quality) improves worker productivity, reduces absenteeism and lowers staff turnover. Employees ranking office environments consistently report temperature, air quality, and noise as the aspects of the workplace they are least satisfied with. Invariably, energy efficiency solutions improve the working environment as well as reducing energy use.
BOOST Marketing Efforts
Reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions will also help to enhance your brand reputation and increase your competitive advantage. Increasingly, businesses are looking at their suppliers’ green credentials. Furthermore, research shows customers are 55 per cent more likely to buy a company’s products or services if they know the company is socially or environmentally responsible.
Wiltshire Based Printers Takes Action to BOOST Business Performance
Wiltshire based printers, Park Lane Press, were one of the first printers in the UK to offer waterless printing. They were one of the first printers in the UK to offer waterless printing. Their respect and care for the environment goes beyond just waterless printing. Everything is considered; from the inks they choose right down to how they deliver the finished goods. This environmental commitment has enabled Park Lane Press to win several environmental awards.
Park Lane Press partnered with SMARTech energy to identify further opportunities to improve energy efficiency in the running of their premises and operations. The comprehensive energy reduction plan we produced identified a range of energy efficiency measures which gave:
- 44% energy savings
- 66.3 tonne carbon reduction
- 2 year pay back
Whilst reducing energy consumption the plan also improved lighting conditions throughout the premises and offered a more environmentally friendly cooling solution.
Our case study on SMARTech energy’s work with Park Lane Press tells the story about our work to help reduce their energy consumption in more depth. If you want to take action in 2017 to reduce your organisation’s energy consumption, boost profits and cut carbon emissions, why not contact us to find out more about our Energy Management Surveys.

Whilst energy savings give a real boost to business profits, implementing energy saving solutions also contribute to the much needed efforts to reduce carbon emissions. To date, 9,186 tonnes of carbon reduction opportunities have been identified by SMARTech energy for our clients. Improving energy efficiency can provide the biggest contribution to limiting global warming to no more than 2°C according to the Carbon Trust
Wiltshire based manufacturing company achieves carbon reduction target
Manuli Packaging are the largest stretch film producers in the world. Having diversified into bubble wrap production at their Wiltshire site in the mid-90s, followed by moving into packaging tape, their continuing growth now make Manuli Packaging one of the leading distributors of all film and tape products.
Manuli Packaging were struggling to meet their obligations under the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme and turned to SMARTech energy for help.
SMARTech energy installed Eniscope energy monitoring system at Manuli Packaging’s main production site in Wiltshire to generate minute by minute, real time analytics on energy usage and quality. Our in-house ESOS approved assessors also carried out an in-depth audit of the site. Combining the analytics from the energy monitoring with the data from the audits, we were able to understand HOW, WHEN and WHERE energy was being used and most importantly wasted.
The comprehensive energy reduction plan we produced identified a range of energy efficiency measures which gave:
- 35% energy savings
- 148 tonne carbon reduction
- 1 year pay back

When you consider how energy is consumed in your business, it is likely your mind is drawn to the obvious areas such as air conditioning, heating, lighting or any large piece of equipment. However, business practices along with the habits and routines of the people working in the operations can often have a sizeable impact on the size of energy bills. (more…)
SMARTech energy have been working closely with Dorothy House Hospice Care in Wiltshire to help reduce their overall energy consumption through a reduction in both electrical demand and total gas usage. Several electrical reduction solutions have already been implemented reducing total application consumption by 37%, these included: (more…)
SMARTech energy are delighted to have been working in partnership with Whitehall Garden Centre in Lacock, Wiltshire to develop and implement an energy saving plan to target a 40% reduction in energy consumption.
Our work with Whitehall Garden Centre started with an Energy Management Survey. SMARTech energy installed Real-Time Energy Monitoring equipment into Whitehall Garden Centre to generate minute by minute, 24/7 analytics on energy consumption across the site. We also carried out an in-depth site survey to collate data. This enabled us to identify WHERE, WHEN and HOW energy was being consumed and, most importantly, wasted. (more…)
SMARTech energy have been working with Wiltshire Council on an energy management solution to reduce their carbon output and energy reduction.
The initial site that was worked on was Devizes Leisure Centre where impressive savings have been identified and when put in to practice are now being achieved.
SMARTech energy have replaced the old 32.5KW Chiller which cools the gym and fitness studio. This has been upgraded to two SMART evaporative cooling systems which each has a maximum power rating of 3.6kW. The technology works by moving outside air over water soaked filters which changes the state of the air and lowers it temperature, which when compared to air conditioning or chillers can operate with up to 90% less energy and no harmful refrigerants are required.
When designing and specifying the energy management solution, SMARTech energy looked at the constant heat loads within Devizes Leisure Centre and targeted to reduce this heat load to ensure the system ran as optimal as possible. This was identified as the traditional fluorescent lighting which we upgraded to energy efficient LED lighting to reduce the average temperature within the gym by one degree.
The new SMART evaporative cooling system is designed to be controlled by PLC controller (Programmable Logic Controller) to allow easy access and parameter adjustments of the system, which is accessed via a touchscreen. We also had bespoke scheduling tool developed to allow schedules to be set up and easily adjusted enabling automated variance in temperatures for each zones for various classes.
SMARTech energy Managing Director Stuart Pearce said,
“ We are delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Wiltshire Councils and Devizes Leisure Centre to install the SMART evaporative cooling systems. By taking a holistic approach to energy management and not looking at the cooling in isolation, we have been able to identify impressive savings for Devizes Leisure Centre”.
If you are concerned about high energy costs and use air conditioning or chiller units to cool your facility why not contact us to find out more about our SMART evaporative cooling systems, which are great applications for offices, server rooms, factories and print presses to name a few.
